Be a Part of the Online Community
Become part of MTML's online community and network with people interested in literacy issues. The MTML online community is intended to enhance communications, information sharing and collaboration between literacy service providers and anyone interested in adult literacy issues.
You will be able to:
Why become a member of MTML?
By becoming a member of the Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy you can benefit from the variety of activities and resources we provide for the literacy movement. Our members are invited to MTML workshops, seminars and special events. They also receive our newsletter, Incoming. Members can vote at our Annual General Meeting, join committees, and run for the board of directors.
Who can become a member?
Any individual can become a member of MTML. Individual members are often literacy workers, volunteer tutors or learners. Many of the organizations that are members of MTML are programs run by community-based groups, school boards, libraries, workplaces or community colleges. However, you do not have to work for, or participate in a literacy program to become a member. We welcome groups and individuals with an interest in adult literacy to become members.
What are literacy programs?
Literacy programs help English-speaking adults to improve their reading, writing and basic math skills. Literacy programs are offered by community agencies, school boards and colleges.
Do they need volunteers?
In a word -- YES! Community-based literacy programs rely on volunteers to provide tutoring support to adult learners. School boards also have volunteers who work with an instructor in a classroom setting.
