MTML Education Committee
Group Mission:
The Education Committee is a standing committee of the MTML Board. The Education Committee's goal is to provide professional development and training opportunities that lead to the development and improvement of literacy work and the literacy movement as a whole. The Committee's goal is to provide opportunities that address the diverse need of the literacy community in Toronto and York Region.
The literacy community includes both organizations and individuals. Organizations are those who offer literacy programming and/or are concerned about literacy. Individuals include, but are not limited to, literacy learners, paid and volunteer workers, and literacy board members.
In order to reach this goal in an effective way that is in keeping with principles of adult education, the Committee offers member-driven professional development and training opportunities that address the needs of both individual and organizational members and allows for voluntary participation.
Currently the Education Committee is made up of members who come to and participate in the committee meetings.
Nancy Friday and Brett Balaban, members of the MTML Board, co-chair the Education Committee.
The Committee meets once a month for two hours at the MTML office. Meeting dates are announced in the Community Events area of this website.
Everyone is welcome to attend meetings and participate in the work of the Education Committee.
