East York Learning Experience

Free one-to-one tutoring in reading, writing, math and digital literacy.  Tutors and learners meet for 2 hours each week (day or evening)  and learners complete homework in between sessions. We use a learner-centred approach which means we will do goal-setting with you, assess your skills, and develop an individual training plan. Your plan will include the necessary steps needed to reach your goals whether they be employment, secondary school, post secondary, apprenticeship programs, or independence. We will use resources for teaching that are directly related to your goal path.  EYLE boasts a collection of over 1600 resources.

EYLE has been delivering high quality literacy programming to the East York, east Toronto and west Scarborough communities since 1987.

ADMISSION:  Free

PROGRAM TYPE: Community Based

SERVING: Anglophone

REGISTRATION PROCESS: Contact us by phone or email to set up an intake appointment.  During the pandemic we are doing intakes by phone and/or online.  During the intake we will complete the participant registration form, do goal setting, policy review and informal assessment.

INTAKE: Continuous intake. The length of the program depends on your needs. For example, a learner who only requires some math upgrading will spend less time in the program than someone needing to work in all areas.

ELIGIBILITY: Adults 18+; wheelchair accessible; ESL learners must attain Level 6 in speaking to participate in our program.

ACCESS: Due to the pandemic we are currently working offsite and tutoring sessions are happening online. When it is safe to reopen, we will do so with safety protocols in place.  For those without access to or the skills to work online, we try to accommodate with mailouts or drop-offs of learning materials and tutoring support by phone and texting.  When it is safe to open, all tutoring will revert back to onsite.
